Coleen Sterritt
Professor Los Angeles-based sculptor, Coleen Sterritt was born in Morris, Illinois. She received her BFA from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1976 and a MFA from Otis Art Institute, Los Angeles in 1979. Over the past three decades, Ms. Sterritt’s work has been included in exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe. She has had numerous one-person gallery exhibitions and is represented in prominent public and private collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Ms. Sterritt is a recipient of many distinguished awards including artist fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and Art Matters, Inc., New York. She received an Artist-in-Residence grant from the Roswell Museum of Art in New Mexico in 1994. In 1996, Sterritt was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship for sculpture from the J. Paul Getty Trust Fund for the Visual Arts and she is a recent recipient of an Individual Artist Fellowship from the City of Los Angeles (COLA Award) for 2006-07. Ms. Sterritt’s teaching career began in 1983 and has included positions at Otis College of Art & Design, University of Southern California, California State University, Long Beach, and Pepperdine University. She was a Distinguished Visiting Artist at California State University, Fullerton, 1986-87 and an Adjunct Professor at The Claremont Graduate University from 1988 to 2000 before joining the LBCC Art Department in 1998 as the full-time faculty coordinator for the sculpture program. |
